The argument I have heard is that the women competing in the WALF are under-equipped & have been thrust into elite sport for our entertainment. Whether you agree or not there may be some truth to that statement.

The fact are female athletes are at a greater risk of ACL injuries. To be precise about it, the evidence tells us its eight times more likely than men actually. 1   This partially explains why we’ve seen four ACL injuries in the first 4 weeks (not including the 2 in pre-season) of the in...

**The following article contains course language. If you are easily offended or feel like you should have parental approval to read this, close your browser & go on with your day**

Everyone is going to have problems, that my friends is a fact of life. They don't go away, they merely get upgraded or exchanged. If you get married, you’ll fight. Buy a house, you’ll have repairs. Start a business, don't get me started on those problems.

The winning formula isn’t to have no problems or avoid them. Tha...

The fact that you can move with extreme quickness or power is a cool thing to exert. I mean if you own a Ferrari, you can’t keep it in 3rd gear, right? However, there are always consequences for driving fast.

The issue is with high end sports cars is they require regular servicing & top end fuel to ensure optimal output & untainted performance. All the parts are shipped from a European country and installed by a licensed technician with an extensive knowledge of their working pieces, all for a h...

If you follow me on Instagram (@winkfitgym) you’ll know that I don't don't have any MMA fighters in my stable but I absolutely believe I can always learn something from everyone & every sport. Hence why I’ve just finished a book by Martin Rooney about their mentalities & training styles.

Martin explains that fighters rely on 3 attributes that are harder to train than muscle or bone. I couldn't help but draw similarities between successful fighters like McGregor & Rousey & healthy people who...

If you've followed my social media accounts (@mattwinkley @winkfitgym) over the last 5 weeks you would have seen I was in America & Canada experiencing many different gyms, training styles & nutrition approaches.

I was introduced to a product named KetoOS while travelling. Low and behold I come home & find it plastered over my Instagram & Facebook feeds. I’ve even had some conversations with trainers in my gym about it. So like anything health & fitness, one must do their due diligence. Espe...

We play frisbee on the last Thursday of the month. We have done for the past 3 years.

Chrissie against the boys doesn't light the frisbee field on fire. She's a mother of 3, mid 40's, never been a huge runner & until starting with me 7 years ago had done very little to maintain athletic ability. What I love about Chrissie is she's always happy to be involved & wants to have a go.

So at this point in time, there are a couple of things Chris & I are working on. One of them is better stress mana...

Standing in the door of my gym just last week, I noticed my shadow. Nothing particularly special about it but it made me think in two particular lines of thought. Am I the shape I want to be (the literal shadow) and secondly I questioned if what I think I project is what others see, does the shadow my actions create represent what I'm about?

Your shadow may be strong or weak, it may be in business, parenting or training but it always exists.

The role of the leader, at work, a...

Attitude is everything. It was something I was not only taught early in my life by my parents but also early in my coaching life by my mentor.

He said;

“You can write the best programme in the world, but if your athletes don’t believe in it, it's useless. I can show you crappy programmes that shouldn’t work but do, because those doing them apply themselves & believe”

There is a distinct number of groups you’ll see in my gym;

The Entitled - Individuals who roll in late be it 5 or 10 minutes that...

When I meet someone new & we get to chatting this is almost without fail how the conversation pans out:

New Friend: “So what do you do for a job?”

Me: “Im in the fitness industry.”

New Friend: “Oh like Crossfit?”

A seemingly harmless follow up question but one that really gets repetitive & frustrating quite quickly. Now before you jump on the comments section & proclaim your love for Crossfit (CF) & how its the best thing since Schapelle can go boogie boarding again. Let me explain the reasons I...

With 100 million daily users, Snapchat is quickly becoming the biggest social media platform. 45% of users are aged between 18 -24, 70% of all users are female & it’s now ranked the number 1 social media platform for teens.

I’ve been on Snapchat for a few years but only signed up as a company a few months ago. Why? Because we all want to do what we know, unlike Instagram, Twitter & Facebook who move up & down, Snapchat moves left & right. We’ve all read it's the app that's synonymous with send...
